Hair Mineral Analysis

Hair mineral analysis is an excellent, non-invasive way of assessing whether or not your problem is due to heavy metal toxicity or a mineral ion imbalance.

Every day we are exposed to heavy metal toxins; from car fumes, mercury (amalgam) fillings, cleaning materials and cosmetics. These heavy metals tend to get lodged in the body as it is difficult for us to expel them and the concentrations mount up with time. The metals are deposited in the liver and other organs and also in the hair and nails. Once they reach critical levels they can affect how our bodies function. Primarily they can undermine immune system function and may lead to such conditions as ME and post viral fatigue conditions. They have also been implicated in adrenal and thyroid dysfunction, reduced fertility (male and female), chronic high blood pressure and nervous system problems. The hair can also be analysed to look at your mineral ion balance, perhaps the mineral ion concentration in question is too high or too low, dietary changes can then be implemented in order to correct this.

All it takes to assess your heavy metal toxicity is a sample of hair weighing just one gram. The hair sample is taken from close to the scalp, usually at the nape of the neck, so that you won’t really notice it has gone. The sample is then sent to laboratories in the United States where it is analysed chemically to ascertain its composition. If any metal ions are found to be borderline then the hair is automatically retested in order to check the accuracy of the result.

If you are bald, have very cropped hair or have dyed hair then a sample of pubic hair can be used instead.

If heavy metal toxicity is detected there are several natural ways of reducing levels and helping the body expel them from the tissues. General mineral ion imbalances can be corrected with dietary/supplement changes.

The hair mineral analysis test is available through the clinic and costs £55.00, the results are sent with a booklet giving a detailed explanation. If you would like more information about the test or would like to have your hair tested please contact the clinic.
